History of the Department
In order to promote Taiwan’s status in the global arena, it has become increasingly important for Taiwan’s universities to cultivate professionals who are able to employ English as an international language to communicate with people all over the world in the past few decades. In accordance with this need, the Department of Foreign Languages (DFL) at Fooyin University was established with a 5-year junior-college program in 1995. It was expanded with two-year and four-year college programs to respond to the new development of Fooyin University in 2002. Although the four-year program was briefly discontinued in favor of the two-year program for junior college graduates in 2006, it was reinstated due to its popular demand in 2008. In spite of the increasing low-birth rates in Taiwan, the number of classes in the junior-college program has still grown and is well maintained at present.
